Beginner Kayak Program
BEGINNER KAYAKING is an excellent option for kids who want to try kayaking as a new sport.
No prior paddling experience is required.
In this 1-week program, kids will learn basic paddling in trainer kayaks, and we will teach boat handling, paddle strokes, steering, and safety. Check out our RACE-INTRO program if your child wants to paddle more and become part of our racing teams.
Program: 1 week, 6/3 to 6/7

Race-Intro Kayak Program
RACING INTRODUCTION (RI) is for our club's newest members. Young paddlers may join from our Beginner Kayak Program or transition from other sports a little later.
The program is designed to help build basic paddling technique and skills. We teach boat handling, paddle strokes, steering, and safety. Kids will participate in races with kids from other kayaking clubs in the metro. The emphases are on Learning, Fitness, and Fun.
Program: Nine weeks, 6/10 to 8/14
Practice: Tues + Thurs, 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Races: 2 x Sat, 6/28 and 7/26 (Twin Cities)
Age Range: 10 to 14
Cost: $315, or three installments of $105
Race-Ready Kayak Program
RACING READY (RR) is for youth ready to further their paddling skills. Participants have previously experienced sprint paddling with the club. The program builds on the RACE-INTRO stage.
The athletes continue to develop their technique and participate in inter-club races. The children and teenagers will learn to race singles (K1) and doubles (K2) and also experience some Dragon Boat (DB) paddling.
Program: Thirteen weeks, 5/19 to 8/14
Practice: Tues + Thurs, 5:45 PM to 7:15 PM
Races: Sat, 6/15, 6/28, and 7/26 (Twin Cities)
Age Range: 11 to 15
Cost: $420, or four installments of $105
Teen Dragon Boat Program
DRAGON BOAT (DB) is a new program for teenagers who want to experience paddling in a larger group. Teammates will be taught basic strokes, safety, and teamwork skills in a supportive environment. The class equips the participants with the skills needed to paddle confidently as part of a crew in a recreational team setting. Our focus is on safety, skill development, and fun!
At the end of the five-week program, the team will participate in a 1-day dragon boat race in Starbuck, MN (northwest of St. Cloud).
Program: Five weeks, 7/8 to 8/7
Practice: Tues + Thurs, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
